Florida Guide > Shopping
Fancy a change of shopping scene from the big Orlando malls or want to have a day out, combining shopping and perhaps a visit to somewhere a little bit different?
Here are two suggestions, which will particularly appeal if you are staying at a villa on or near HW27 – Eagle Ridge Mall at Lake Wales which is just south of Haines City, and Clermont Landing, just south of Clermont.
Both these shopping areas are well worth visiting. It’s really quick and easy to get to them via the HW27, and as they are both a little ‘off the beaten track’ they are normally much quieter and more relaxed than some of the Orlando shopping malls can be at times, and parking is never a problem.
Eagle Ridge Mall has a good variety of department stores (Sears, J C Penney, Dillards) well-known brands like Victoria’s Secret, Foot Locker and Toys-R-Us, and lots of smaller independent speciality shops. All the shops here are undercover, inside the mall– so this makes a great choice if it happens to be a rainy day.
Another bonus if it' s wet, is that Eagle Ridge has a large multiplex cinema wthin the Mall.
It also has a good choice of places to eat, including Garfields, Chili’s, Bob Evans and Sbarro Italian Eatery.
For young kids, there’s a huge antique carousel to ride on and a soft play area, and this definitely contributes to the family-friendly environment.
After a morning’s shopping and lunch at Eagle Ridge Mall, in the afternoon you could visit the new Legoland Theme Park, as this is just a few miles away at Winter Haven. You don’t even have to drive, as Eagle Ridge Mall offers free transportation to Legoland Monday-Saturday! (Tickets and information are available at Subway and Steel City Grille).
Now to Clermont Landing. This relatively new shopping destination has a great mix of well known stores (J C Penney, TJ Maxx, Michael’s, Famous Footwear and Ross Dress for Less), together with a 16 screen Multiplex Cinema and lots of other lesser-known smaller shops.
Here, you will be spoilt for choice for eating out, with restaurants on site including Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Buffalo Wild Wings and Red Brick Pizza.
And there are two bonuses if decide to visit Clermont Landings! One is that close by you will pass a huge Walmart Superstore, plus a Kohl’s Department store – giving you yet more shopping choices in a quiet and relaxed environment.
The second bonus is that as you drive north towards Clermont Landing on HW27 you have the opportunity to visit two great attractions which you may not have normally considered - Showcase of Citrus and Lake Louisa State Park. Both are well worth a visit if you are in the area.
